WINGS Over the Lake

 

Our cottage community has grown. We now have the 5 rental cottages as well as the house and property across the street. WINGS acquired the 2 bedroom, year-round house with a great fireplace in November as a gift from FRIENDS Alliance. The house is situated on 2 mostly wooded acres. The property will not only supply firewood for many years to come, but is a great place for a little nature hike or camping by a stream running through it. The house has a warm and comfortable space for relaxing, dining for 30 or meeting space for 40. The house also has a modern kitchen area is is centerally heated and air conditioned. With the addition of this property we now offer a complete conference center for smaller meetings up to 30 people. Plus we are opened and have activities year-round!

 

POT LUCK DINNERS on the 1st Tuesday of each month

 Our famous pot luck dinners will continue June thru September on a monthlky basis on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Pot lucks are held at Autumn House, 500 East 9 Mile Rd, Ferndale, in the 1st floor meeting room. We have had some amazing and interesting dishes served time. In addition we are planning monthly BBQ's on Saturday at WINGS 'Cutest Cabins' Over the Lake thru the Summer (See calendar for schedule).

  

Finding WINGS new Location

A quick note on finding the building. It is a 7 story building slightly set back from East 9 Mile Rd (2 blocks East of Woodward). The address is 500 East 9 Mile Rd. at Paxton. From Woodward, take 9 mile Rd EAST to Paxton, turn right on Paxton, go past Autumn House and turn left on Troy St behind the building, then left into the parking lot. There will be a sign on the door-go in, proceed straight ahead through the next door then immediately right into the meeting room.

EDWIN H DRESCHER JR MEMORIAL WEEKEND

August 29-Septmeber 1, 2008

Although Summer has just begun, it is time to make plans for our annual LABOR DAY weekend. This year’s weekend (our 11th)  will be handled a little differently in that the first 2 nights will be at the Ralph MacMullin center at Higgins Lake and the 3rd night will be at WINGS ‘Cutest Cabins’ Over the Lake in Applegate, MI.

You will arrive at Higgins Lake on Friday (3PM at the earliest) to an array of snacks and enjoy dinner at 7:00PM, followed by the whole day Saturday with GREAT food, Lake entertainment, the never-ending bon fire, making new friends, playing games or dice, swimming, or just plain relaxing at the waters edge. Then on Sunday be packed up and ready to leave after breakfast for your trip to WINGS cottages in Applegate, their you will be greeted with a mid-day BBQ, then spent the night in one of our cottages followed by Monday brunch. We will have a Memorial Dedication on Sunday at dusk.  Those wishing to extend their visit at the cottages may do so!

As always, all food is provided (Friday dinner thru Monday brunch) with great beach BBQ’s (weather permitting), beverages with meals, your accommodations, and much more. Please bring other snacks or beverages with you. The entire weekend is provided at no charge and is sponsored by the Edwin H Drescher Jr Memorial Trust. To hold a place (space is limited to 50 on a first come basis) complete the registration form on the back of this page and mail it in with your registration fee of $25.00 cash, money order, or check payable to WINGS. DO NOT send registration forms without the $25.00 registration fee, those that are received without the fee enclosed will be trashed.

You will be notified when your registration form has been accepted.

So start planning for the biggest Summer’s end weekend of the year and send your registration in ASAP. Remember only the first 50 registrations presented with payment will be going this year.

Transportation is on your own and your only expense for the weekend, remember no pets are allowed at the MacMullin Center. Request your reservation form at reservations@wingsmi.org

 

WINGS new permanent mailing address

We have closed the Ferndale office. Our official office will be located in Applegate in the remodeled garage of WINGS Over the Lake.  The new office at the cottages will be used for both WINGS business and cottage rental. WINGS will continue to meet and have sponsored events in Ferndale at the meeting room at Autumn House, 500 East 9 Mile Rd.
